Pioneer have announced a new addition to their headphone range, the HDJ-500. These new fully enclosed dynamic stereo headphones are said to be based on Pioneer's top-of-the-range HDJ-2000s, and will be available in three colours: red, black and white. To combat against the rigours of club DJing—and in particular one-eared monitoring—the HDJ-500s feature a rotating arm structure, allowing the right earpiece to move forward and back by up to 60 degrees. Also included is two interchangeable cords: a 1.2 meter coiled cord which extends to 3 meters for DJing, and a home listening-friendly straight cord that is 1 meter in length. The HDJ-500s' frequency response is 5Hz - 28,000Hz.

Refined Design

The HDJ-500 DJ headphones adapt the styling and performance cues of Pioneer's top-of-the-line HDJ-2000 headphones. Designed with maximum comfort and reliability in mind, the HDJ-500 headphones use comfortable urethane pads for the ears that allow the headphones to mold around the user's head and ears for a snug and slip-resistant fit. Furthermore, the urethane pads are wrapped in great quality leather, providing greater feel and extended comfort. The main structure of the headphones is crafted of magnesium alloy for light weight and durability, making them great for travel and long periods of use.
 

The Sound Difference
The HDJ-500's stylish design is matched with great sound quality providing clear audio reproduction, especially in the critical low and mid frequency ranges that are key for remixing. By combining 40 mm diameter drivers, thick 19 µm (micrometers) diaphragm and a copper clad aluminum wire (CCAW) voice coil, the headphones can efficiently reproduce the lower frequency audio range. Snare and kick drum sounds are more clear making it easier for even the most novice DJs to match the tempo of tracks. Versatility For maximum flexibility during performances, the HDJ-500 features a rotating arm structure that allows the user to rotate the right earpiece forward and back by as much as 60 degrees. At that position, the flexible headband maintains enough side pressure to allow the DJ to listen to audio on just one side of the headphones. The headphones include two interchangeable cords providing freedom of movement during performances. The traditional 1.2 meter coiled cord (extends to 3m) is perfect for regular DJ performances, while the 1 meter straight cord is ideal for leisure listening.

Main Features
 
1) Clearly reproduces low-mid range sound that DJs need such as kick and snare drums
 Reproduces a rich low-range and increases the sound pressure by utilising our newly developed 40 mm diameter driver unit, which uses a rare-earth super magnet and by narrowing the ear pad opening. Furthermore, by adopting the thickest diaphragm ever at 19mm (micrometers) and a copper clad aluminium wire (CCAW) voice coil, the headphones reproduce the clear lowmid range sounds necessary for DJ mixing, such as snare and kick drum sounds, which enables DJs to readily pick out the tempo of the music.
 
2) Compatible with various DJ monitoring styles
 The headphones enable various DJ monitoring style by employing a rotating arm structure that allows it to slide to about 60 degrees to the right of the housing via the flexible headband we created that maintains side pressure, allowing DJs to listen with just one ear, freeing up the other for monitoring the track in place as well as the crowd reactions.
 
3) Uses an interchangeable side-mount cord that doesnt hinder DJ movement
 We adopted an interchangeable cord that plugs into one side of the headphones so it doesnt hinder movement when DJing. The headphones come with a 1.2 m coiled cord (extends to about 3m) and a 1m straight cord, which can be used for different purposes and sceneswhether listening to music out on the town or whilst DJing.
 
4) Emulates the design of professional DJ headphones
 We created a simple and stylish design that emulates the flagship HDJ-2000 model. The streamlined hanger makes it a snap to distinguish the left and right sides of the headphones.
